WILMINGTON, DE — A 30-year-old man is in custody after fleeing a traffic stop and being found in possession of controlled substances, according to Wilmington Police.
On the evening of April 25, 2025, officers from the Special Operations Division Traffic Unit observed a vehicle committing several traffic violations around 5:45 p.m. When they attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the 1200 block of North King Street, the driver, later identified as Oliver Cephus, fled the scene.
The vehicle was soon located in the 300 block of East 16th Street, where Cephus was apprehended without further incident.
During the investigation, officers discovered 174 grams of marijuana and 0.51 grams of fentanyl. Cephus was charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver and Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal, along with additional traffic violations.
Cephus was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and is currently held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
