AKURE, ONDO STATE — The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with a high-profile N25 million internet fraud carried out via a Facebook scam, according to a statement released Monday by DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the command’s spokesperson.
The suspects, identified as Ojo Oluwafemi (male) and Omowunmi Balogun (female), both from Ilobu, Osun State, were apprehended after their victim, Prince Adebola Adeoye, lodged a formal complaint on February 10, 2025.
According to police investigations, the duo conspired in 2024 to defraud Adeoye of N25 million, which they then converted for personal use.
Acting on the complaint, detectives from the Command’s Special Enquiry Unit launched an intensive intelligence-gathering and surveillance operation. Their efforts culminated in the arrest of Ojo Oluwafemi on July 29, 2025, in Ijebu-Ijesha, followed by the arrest of Omowunmi Balogun on July 30, 2025, at Shoprite Roundabout, Akure.
Both suspects are now in custody as the case undergoes further investigation.
DSP Ayanlade emphasized that the success of the operation highlights the capacity of the Police to track and apprehend suspects across state lines, reaffirming their commitment to clamp down on digital and financial crimes.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has also reiterated the command’s dedication to intelligence-led policing, promising continued action against criminal networks operating both online and offline.
He also credited the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, whose emphasis on technological innovation and intelligence-driven policing continues to strengthen law enforcement nationwide.
The Police urge the public to be cautious in their online interactions and to report suspicious activities promptly.
“Together, through proactive policing and responsible citizenship, we can preserve public trust and ensure a safer society for all,” Ayanlade stated.
