NEW CASTLE, Ind. — Indiana State Police troopers arrested Sharod Leon Kenzo Hicks, 23, of Dayton, Ohio, following a stolen vehicle pursuit Tuesday that ended in a crash and a foot chase.

The chase began around 6 p.m. when officers spotted a black Chevrolet Suburban matching the description of a reported stolen vehicle traveling westbound on I-70 near the Indiana-Ohio border. When a trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop near the 131.5-mile marker, the driver accelerated and fled.

The suspect exited the interstate at mile marker 115 and led troopers on a winding chase through Hancock County, sideswiping a truck at one point while turning onto State Road 234. Despite attempts to deploy tire deflation devices, Hicks evaded the measures and continued south on State Road 9.

The pursuit ended when Hicks jumped from the moving vehicle, which then crashed into a tree. Hicks fled on foot into a nearby cornfield but was apprehended after a K-9 unit assisted troopers in establishing a perimeter.

Hicks sustained injuries from jumping out of the vehicle and was treated and released from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He faces numerous charges including resisting law enforcement, vehicle theft, aggressive driving, reckless operation in a highway worksite, criminal recklessness, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, plus three outstanding arrest warrants from Ohio.
