NATCHITOCHES, La. (KSLA) – A LaSalle Corrections officer has been arrested after allegedly stealing money belonging to an inmate at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center, authorities said.

On Nov. 11, around 1:39 p.m., the Natchitoches Police Department (NPD) received a report of theft at the facility. Administrators told officers that an inmate discovered money missing from their personal property upon release.

During the investigation, police reviewed security footage and reportedly saw Moesha Collier, 28, a correctional officer with LaSalle Corrections, remove cash from the inmate’s currency bag and put it in her pocket.

Collier was arrested and booked into the LaSalle Corrections/Natchitoches Detention Center. She faces a felony charge of malfeasance in office, which carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a $5,000 fine if convicted.

Authorities have not released further details about the amount stolen or whether internal disciplinary action has been taken.
