(WBFF) — An Anne Arundel County police officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay while an internal investigation is underway following an assault charge filed in Washington County, officials confirmed.
Corporal Kara Parks, a four-year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Police Department, was charged with second-degree assault in Washington County District Court on December 15. The charge stems from an incident that allegedly occurred while Parks was off duty and not in uniform.
At the time of the incident, Parks was assigned to the department’s Bureau of Community Services. Following the filing of the charge, the department suspended her with pay pending the outcome of both the criminal case and an internal review.
Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and did not release additional details about the alleged incident. As with all criminal cases, Parks is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
