Odisha Police on Monday arrested Sk Akbar, a drug peddler from Arada Bazar, Balasore, and seized contraband worth approximately Rs 40 lakh during a raid in Bhubaneswar’s Airfield Police station area.
Acting on precise intelligence, the Special Crime Unit (SCU) of Commissionerate Police launched a surveillance operation targeting illegal brown sugar trade. Akbar was intercepted near Lingaraj Road Railway Station, where he was allegedly planning a narcotics transaction. The police seized 400 grams of brown sugar from him.
The accused was apprehended without resistance and is currently under interrogation to reveal more details about the supply network. The Commissionerate Police described the seizure and arrest as a significant step in their ongoing effort to dismantle criminal drug syndicates in the city.
Investigators are still searching for the principal accused, Sk Sadik Mohammad (30) of Sahadevkhunta, Balasore. Authorities are tracing the supply chain, financial enablers, and wider criminal affiliations. Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious narcotics-related activities.
