In Kendrapada district of Odisha, a police constable, Srutiranjan Khuntia (30), has been arrested for allegedly sexually exploiting a 23-year-old woman over more than a year. He reportedly posed as a bachelor and repeatedly promised to marry her.
Khuntia, who was serving at the Tantiapala Marine police station, allegedly entered into a physical relationship with the woman under the pretense of marriage. When she demanded that he marry her, he allegedly began threatening her. The victim later discovered that Khuntia was already married.
The woman filed a formal complaint on Friday. Acting on the complaint, authorities arrested Khuntia on Saturday under Sections 69 (sexual intercourse by deceitful means or false promise of marriage), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 324(4) (mischief causing substantial property damage), and 296 (obscene acts) of the BNS.
Kendrapada Town IIC Dilip Sahoo stated that Khuntia was presented in court, which denied his bail and sent him to judicial custody. The victim underwent a medical examination at the district headquarters hospital, and her statement was recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
