RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Octavius Johnson, 30, will spend 25 years in prison after being convicted of second-degree attempted murder for shooting at his ex-girlfriend outside a liquor store in Riviera Beach.
The incident took place on April 26, 2024, at the liquor store located at 421 Barack Obama Highway. According to the Riviera Beach Police Department (RBPD), a 32-year-old woman called 911 shortly after the shooting occurred, reporting that her ex-boyfriend, Octavius Johnson, had shot at her while she was sitting in her car in the parking lot.
Investigators found that Johnson approached the victim’s car and pointed a gun through the driver’s window. The victim told officers that Johnson tried to fire multiple times, but the gun jammed. After the malfunction, Johnson fired several rounds at the car as the victim fled the scene. Thankfully, the victim was not struck by any of the bullets.
Officers recovered 9mm bullet casings from the scene, which led them to Johnson. He was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Florida/Caribbean Task Force and charged with second-degree attempted murder. Johnson, a convicted felon, will not be eligible for release until April 20, 2049.
“This violent felon is now off the streets, thanks to the swift and tireless efforts of our officers and the subsequent investigation,” said Chief Michael Coleman of the Riviera Beach Police Department.
The successful apprehension of Johnson highlights the continued dedication of local law enforcement to combat domestic violence and keep the community safe.
