COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A Buford woman, Nyriah Nichelle Jones, 28, was arrested and faces multiple serious charges after allegedly leading deputies on a high-speed chase with two children in her vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
Coweta County deputies say Jones was clocked at 109 mph on Interstate 85, swerving dangerously and nearly rear-ending a tractor-trailer. When a deputy activated their lights to pull her over, Jones allegedly accelerated, attempting to flee.
After a dangerous pursuit, Jones eventually pulled over, and was ordered out of her vehicle at gunpoint. Deputies reported finding a six-year-old and an eight-year-old in the backseat, along with a nearly empty bottle of tequila on the front passenger floorboard. One child was her own, and the other belonged to a friend.
Jones was described as belligerent, using profanity and refusing to cooperate, even kicking a deputy in the face while in custody. Deputies said they smelled strong alcohol on her breath.
She is now facing multiple charges including:
DUI
Two counts of child endangerment while DUI
Fleeing and attempting to elude
Speeding
Obstruction
Failure to maintain lane
Reckless driving
Expired registration
Both children were released to a family friend. A judge has denied bond, and Jones remains in custody at the Coweta County Jail.
