Dhaka, Bangladesh — Popular Bangladeshi actress Nusraat Faria was arrested at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka while attempting to fly to Thailand. Her arrest follows a court-issued warrant in connection with an attempted murder case tied to the 2024 student protests that shook the country.
According to Bangladeshi media, Faria is one of 17 actors named in a case filed over an alleged attempt to murder a student during the protests in the Vatara area of Dhaka last July. The protests were part of a broader anti-discrimination movement that contributed to the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government.
“We detained her at the airport based on information from immigration authorities,” said officer Sujan Haque, adding, “A court recently approved the attempted murder charges against her.”
Following her arrest, Faria was first taken to the Vatara police station and later transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for further investigation.
The case was originally registered during the height of the student-led movement, which saw widespread protests across the nation. Reports suggest that the victim, a student, was injured during a confrontation involving several well-known public figures.
Nusraat Faria rose to fame with her 2015 debut film Aashiqui, and later starred in commercially successful films like Hero 420, Badsha – The Don, Premi O Premi, and Boss 2. In 2023, she portrayed Sheikh Hasina in the India-Bangladesh co-produced biopic Mujib: The Making of a Nation, directed by Shyam Benegal.
As of now, Faria remains in custody, and the case is under active investigation.
