JAWHAR NAGAR: The police have arrested Bulbul Kanwar, a nursing staff member, in connection with the theft of gold jewelry valued at Rs30 lakh from the residence of an elderly woman in Jawahar Nagar. The stolen items were recovered following the accused’s confession and guidance, officials said.
DCP (East) Sanjeev Nain confirmed that Kanwar, daughter of Nathu Singh from Solawat in Naraina and currently residing in Jawahar Nagar, was taken into custody after an investigation.
On September 17, Madhav Madhogadhia, a resident of Monilek Marg, filed a complaint stating that she had been hospitalized due to illness and was advised three months of rest at home after discharge on June 20. To aid in her care, two nursing staff members, Indira Verma and Bulbul Kanwar, were employed.
The nursing staff were responsible not only for care but also household tasks such as managing visitors. Due to injuries on Madhav’s fingers, the keys to cabinets containing valuables were entrusted to them.
Before an engagement ceremony for Madhav’s son on August 24, jewelry including three gold chains weighing 200 grams and a 120-gram gold locket with earrings were taken out for wearing and given to Indira Verma for safekeeping. However, both staff members left the house unexpectedly on August 29-30, and upon checking, 320 grams of gold jewelry was found missing.
During investigations, Bulbul Kanwar initially tried to deflect suspicion by accusing other staff members. However, with technical assistance, police uncovered the truth, leading Kanwar to confess and help recover the stolen jewelry.
