A coordinated operation by Uttar Pradesh’s Etah Police, Special Operations Group (SOG), and surveillance teams resulted in the arrest of a notorious thief, Shivam alias Kaushal Gupta, and the recovery of stolen valuables worth Rs 25 lakh.
The accused, a resident of Farrukhabad, was taken into custody following a complaint by Anil Kumar regarding a suspected burglary at his relative Ramdev Shastri’s residence in Vikas Nagar. The house had been vacant for over a month due to medical treatment of family members.
Police investigation revealed that Shivam had committed the theft on June 6 by breaking into the locked house. Authorities recovered cash amounting to Rs 27,400 along with an extensive collection of stolen ornaments, including necklaces, earrings, bangles, rings, chains, nose rings, pendants, anklets, and toe rings. A knife and a crowbar believed to be used during the burglary were also seized.
Shivam, who has over a dozen cases registered against him across districts including Farrukhabad, Kasganj, Hathras, and Aliganj, is known for surveying homes before striking and has been involved in crimes ranging from theft to murder.
The police team involved in the operation was awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000 by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Shyam Narayan Singh, in recognition of their successful crackdown.
