The Noida Police apprehended a four-member gang involved in the theft of Radio Receiver Units (RRU) and other valuable equipment from mobile towers across the Delhi-National Capital Region, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The suspects have been identified as Azad (28), Akash Kumar (19), Jahir-ud-din (53), all residents of Delhi, and Rihan (19) from Shamli, Uttar Pradesh. According to Shakti Mohan Avasthy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for central Noida, the gang conducted reconnaissance of mobile towers during the day and executed their thefts at night.
On Monday, police received a tip-off regarding the gang’s activities in Bisrakh. A swift response led to the detention of the suspects at Bhagat Market.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to stealing RRUs, batteries, and other equipment from mobile towers across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Noida, and the NCR. After their heists, they sold the stolen items in a market in Delhi. The gang’s operations involved two members climbing the towers while the other two monitored the surroundings for police and local activity.
Authorities have also gathered information about additional gangs engaged in similar thefts, with efforts underway to track them down, according to Manoj Singh, Station House Officer at Bisrakh police station.
The police recovered 10 RRUs, a ladder, a toolbox worth Rs80 lakh, and Rs4,500 in cash from the gang. Azad played a key role in selling the stolen equipment in Delhi, and law enforcement is considering applying the Gangster Act to the arrested individuals.
