In a shocking incident in Wadoda village near Kamptee, the Mauda police arrested two men for the brutal murder of a 38-year-old construction contractor over an alleged wage dispute. The victim, Devchand Mahadev Meshram, a centring contractor from Warora, was attacked and killed on the evening of May 18 at Bazar Chowk.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Kalia alias Nitesh Dnyaneshwar Tekam (28) and Vijay Dnyaneshwar Tekam (25). Both were reportedly working under Meshram and had an ongoing financial dispute with him.
According to the police, the altercation began when Meshram confronted Vijay Tekam over unpaid dues. What began as a heated argument quickly escalated into a fatal attack. Both accused allegedly assaulted Meshram with such force that he died on the spot.
The complaint was filed by Ranjana Meshram (34), the victim’s wife, who told police that tensions between her husband and the accused had been growing for weeks over money. Acting swiftly, Mauda police registered a case under murder charges as per relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested the suspects within hours.
The accused were presented before a magistrate and have been remanded to police custody until May 22, as investigations continue. Authorities are also looking into the possible involvement of other workers and reviewing financial records to uncover the full extent of the dispute.
Devchand Meshram is survived by his wife and two children. The case has left the local community shaken and raised concerns about worker-employer tensions in the informal construction sector.
