In a significant crackdown on vehicle theft, Nishatpura police arrested two notorious bike thieves, Zahid Khan and Shivraj Ahirwar, on Tuesday and recovered 15 stolen two-wheelers valued at around Rs 10 lakh from their possession. The accused reportedly hid stolen bikes in forested areas and sold them in rural regions after tampering with number plates.
The arrests followed a tip-off about two suspicious youths roaming near the Karond vegetable market on a motorcycle without a registration number. Acting on the information, a special police team set up a cordon and detained the suspects.
Both men, residents of Vidisha, failed to provide valid documents for their motorcycle, which was later verified through the Vehicle Data Portal as stolen nearly 10 months ago from Jail Road.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to stealing multiple bikes from different areas of Bhopal, including Nishatpura, Piplani, Teela Jamalpura, Gautam Nagar, Sukhi Sewania, Kolar, Eintkhedi, and Ashoka Garden.
Based on their information, police recovered six bikes hidden in forests near a Shamshabad village and eight more from a house in a village under Tyonda police station in Vidisha district.
The total estimated value of the recovered vehicles is approximately Rs 10 lakh. Both accused remain in custody as investigations continue to uncover potential buyers and any larger criminal networks involved.
