A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded nine men at Awarjigoh Correctional Facility over allegations of membership in a cult group and an attempted murder charge.

The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, include Dosunmu Sodiq (29), Oluwasegun Adekunle (37), Anthony Agosa (27), Adesoji Adekunle (35), Sehidu Olamide (25), Rasak Oyebanji (27), Oluwaseun Wusu (30), Soqid Edwin (29), and Keji Okunade (37).

Chief Magistrate Mr. Lazarus Hotepo ordered the defendants’ remand after they pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge, which includes conspiracy, membership in an unlawful society, and attempting to commit murder. He adjourned the case to March 7 for further mention.

Prosecutor ASP Ayodele Adeosun informed the court that the defendants committed the offences on January 19, at approximately 9:00 am, in the Ibiye Community off the Badagry Expressway in Lagos. Adeosun alleged that the defendants conspired to commit a felony, specifically by being members of the unlawful society known as the Eiye confraternity.

The charges are in violation of Sections 411, 42, and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. The case remains under investigation, and the court will reconvene on the scheduled date for further proceedings.
