In a major crackdown, the Amritsar Rural Police arrested nine individuals in three separate incidents within 24 hours for allegedly smuggling drugs and weapons.
The operation led to the seizure of 722 grams of heroin, over Rs2 lakh in drug money, and two pistols with eight live rounds. The accused were identified as Gurmeet Singh (Achintkot), Hardev Singh and Tajinder Singh (Neshta), Lovepreet Singh (Lakhna), Baljit Singh, Prabhdeep Singh, and Sukhwant Singh (Manana, Tarn Taran), Sahildeep Singh (Chananake), and Sukhsagar Singh (Dairywal, Tarsikka).
According to SSP Maninder Singh, a patrolling police team found a white Baleno (JK-08-L-6281) parked near Bagria village with three men behaving suspiciously. A search led to the recovery of 722 gm heroin and ₹1 lakh. A case under the NDPS Act was registered at Gharinda Police Station.
In another operation, Chatiwind Police arrested Lovepreet, Baljit, Prabhdeep, and Sukhwant Singh in Bohru village while they were traveling from Mannan to Amritsar on a motorcycle with a tampered number plate. Acting on a tip-off, police recovered a .30 bore pistol, five live bullets, and Rs1.3 lakh. These suspects allegedly smuggled arms from across the border and supplied them to criminal elements. A case was filed under the Arms Act.
In a third incident, Mehta Police nabbed Sahildeep and Sukhsagar Singh from Rajdhan village. A .32 bore pistol with three live cartridges was found in their possession. They were suspected of planning a crime and were booked under the Arms Act.
Police investigations are ongoing to trace the supply network and identify other members of the smuggling racket.
