COLUMBUS, Ga. — A federal jury has found Nimesh Vijay Desai guilty of multiple drug and firearm offenses following a three-day trial in federal court.
The verdict, delivered on March 4 before U.S. District Judge Clay Land, includes charges of possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and heroin, along with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon.
Desai now faces up to 15 years in prison, with sentencing yet to be scheduled. Under the federal system, parole is not available.
The charges stem from searches conducted on Feb. 28, 2024, at a Columbus apartment and a storage unit linked to Desai as part of an ongoing investigation into armed drug trafficking. During the operation, law enforcement seized approximately 2.2 kilograms of methamphetamine and 800 grams of fentanyl and heroin. Authorities also recovered digital scales, grinders, $12,800 in cash, seven firearms, and multiple rounds of ammunition, including magazines.
At the time of the searches, Desai was on federal supervised release for prior 2012 convictions involving methamphetamine distribution, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and assaulting federal agents with a deadly weapon. He is currently serving a 60-month federal prison sentence after his supervised release was revoked.
U.S. Attorney William R. “Will” Keyes emphasized that repeat offenders will be prosecuted aggressively, noting that federal convictions carry no parole. FBI Georgia Acting Special Agent in Charge Peter Ellis also stated that authorities remain committed to targeting individuals who continue to engage in armed criminal activity.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating violent crime and drug trafficking. The investigation was led by the FBI with support from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, and is being prosecuted by Criminal Chief Leah McEwen.
