Aurora Man Charged with Fleeing Police and Multiple Domestic Violence Offenses
An Aurora man, 26-year-old Nimai Fernandez-Oropeza, has been charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding police after officers attempted to arrest him on domestic violence allegations.
According to an Aurora Police Department statement, Fernandez-Oropeza faces additional charges including home invasion, criminal trespass to a residence, domestic battery, interfering with a report of domestic battery, and criminal damage to property.
Police were called to a home on the 900 block of Wood Street around 11:13 p.m. on September 15, following reports that Fernandez-Oropeza assaulted a woman and a child who tried to intervene.
After the incident, he fled the scene in a Dodge Durango, prompting a police chase. However, officers ended the pursuit due to safety concerns. A second police agency also briefly pursued before calling off the chase.
Fernandez-Oropeza was apprehended approximately 30 minutes later near Andover Lane and Middlebury Drive. Alongside the felony charges, he faces traffic violations including speeding, improper passing, and disobeying stop signs and traffic signals.
He remains detained pretrial, with his next court appearance scheduled for September 26, according to Kane County court records.
