Delhi Police have arrested Nilesh alias Nikesh, a 22-year-old night-shift chef at a five-star hotel, for allegedly burglarizing a house in RK Puram using a master key to open Chinese locks.
The stolen items included cash and jewellery worth approximately Rs 2.69 lakh. Authorities also recovered a master key and two scooters, one reportedly stolen, from the accused.
Police said the victim, a resident of RK Puram Sector 1, discovered that cash worth Rs 3.5 lakh along with gold and silver jewellery was missing after returning from a wedding in Rajasthan earlier this month. CCTV footage showed a man attempting to open the gate, failing initially, and eventually gaining entry. He left the house about half an hour later with the stolen items and fled on a scooter.
Investigators tracked the suspect’s route along Ring Road near a five-star hotel in the Dwarka area, where he was later traced and arrested using technical surveillance methods.
A senior police officer said that despite working night shifts at the hotel, Nilesh used gaps in his schedule to commit the theft. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to using a master key to unlock the gate and then relocking it to avoid suspicion. The stolen jewellery had been hidden inside a scooter parked at his workplace.
