In a significant breakthrough, the Indore Crime Branch on Monday announced the arrest of Jacob Nanbuike Ugwu, a 37-year-old Nigerian national from Delhi, in connection with an illegal Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MD) drug trafficking case.
Ugwu’s arrest follows the earlier seizure of 36 grams of MD drugs, a Tata Altroz car, and mobile phones from two other accused individuals, Hariom Jha (26) and Lakshya Singh Rajput (26). According to Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya, Ugwu is believed to be orchestrating a nationwide drug trafficking operation through his network of associates.
Ugwu, originally from Enugu City, Nigeria, has confessed to residing in Delhi for the past 2-3 years. He ran a refreshment shop in the city and, for the past year, had been supplying MD drugs through members of his gang.
The investigation began when the Indore Crime Branch team received credible information about Jha and Rajput, who were in possession of the drugs and traveling in a Tata Altroz car near the MR10 Bridge. Upon searching their vehicle, police seized 36 grams of MD drugs, the car, and their mobile phones. A case was registered under Crime Number 81/25, Section 8/22 of the NDPS Act at the crime branch police station.
During their police remand, Jha and Rajput revealed that the drugs were sourced from Jacob Ugwu, further linking him to the operation.
