Nigeria Authorities Arrest Drug Syndicate Members with Cannabis, Drugged Cookies and Cakes
On Sunday, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) revealed that Nigerian authorities had closely monitored a drug trafficking syndicate before arresting its leader, 42-year-old Olaribigbe Bashirat Feyisara, along with other gang members.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the suspects, including Abogun Fatimah Ladidi, Osibeluwo Tolulope Oluwaseun, Akanni Balikis Oluwatoyin, and Ajetumobi Amudalat, were arrested after being tracked for their involvement in illicit activities. The authorities seized 14 packs of “Loud,” a powerful strain of cannabis, with a total weight of 6.97 kilograms, hidden on the suspects’ bodies.
In a separate operation in Edo state, authorities apprehended two more women, Martha Owotorofa and Odion Uzordinma, suspected of being members of the same gang. The two women were found in possession of 30 drug-laced cookies and 17 slices of cake, all containing illicit substances.
Nigeria’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) program continues its efforts to combat drug-related crimes by organizing awareness campaigns in schools, workplaces, and communities across the country.
In a bid to strengthen its counter-narcotics initiatives, the Nigerian government approved a funding allocation of US$1.4 million in June 2024 to enhance anti-drug enforcement efforts, including providing anti-riot equipment to combat drug trafficking and related crimes.
