by Ananya Mehta

Two women, identified as Nigar Sultana and Noorain Pari, were arrested for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth Rs1.12 lakh from Shah Sadaji Sogmal Ji Jewelers in Gandhi Bazaar. The incident, which occurred on the afternoon of February 18, has raised concerns about thefts using deceptive disguises.

According to Kiran Shah, the store owner, the women entered the showroom wearing burqas and asked to inspect gold chains weighing 15–20 grams. While the staff attended to them, the duo skillfully swapped real ornaments with fake ones and hid the stolen chains in their sleeves.

Their actions were caught on CCTV, prompting Shah to confront them immediately. The women then revealed their identities and were handed over to the Kote Police, who arrested them under Section 38/25.

Police are now investigating whether the suspects are linked to a larger theft ring operating in the region.
