FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Vice and Narcotics Division of the Fort Wayne Police Department arrested Newton Arnold on Friday for his involvement in a suspected dogfighting ring.
Arnold faces 14 counts of purchasing or possessing an animal for fighting, one count of possession of animal fighting paraphernalia, and one count of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
This arrest follows the earlier detention of Trevel Bell on Tuesday, when authorities rescued 22 dogs and puppies from the suspected dogfighting operation. Bell’s charges were recently updated from two preliminary counts to 10 counts of purchase or possession of an animal for fighting, a level 6 felony, plus one count of possession of animal fighting paraphernalia.
The Fort Wayne Police Department collaborated with Humane World for Animals to carry out the rescue and arrests.
The rescued dogs are now in the care of Humane World for Animals and are receiving treatment at a secure, undisclosed location.
