“New Pornographers” Drummer Joe Seiders Arrested for Child Sexual Abuse Material
PALM DESERT, Calif. — Joe Seiders, the drummer for the band New Pornographers, has been arrested in Southern California on charges related to the possession of child sexual abuse material. The 44-year-old musician was taken into custody on April 9 by Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies at a business in Palm Desert, California.
According to deputies, an employee at the business observed Seiders entering and exiting a restroom with young boys. The employee recognized Seiders as the man who allegedly recorded an 11-year-old boy using the restroom at the same location just days earlier, on April 7. After the arrest, deputies executed search warrants on Seiders’ home, car, and phone, where they uncovered evidence tying him to both the bathroom incidents and the possession of child sexual abuse material.
The charges against Seiders include:
Possession of child pornography
Annoying/molesting a child
Invasion of privacy
Attempted invasion of privacy
In a public statement on Instagram, The New Pornographers expressed shock and devastation over the allegations. They confirmed that they had immediately severed all ties with Seiders. “Everyone in the band is absolutely shocked, horrified, and devastated by the news of the charges against Joe Seiders,” the band wrote. “Our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted by his actions.”
The band further emphasized their commitment to the safety and well-being of others and expressed support for those affected by such incidents. Seiders’ arrest has sent shockwaves through the music community, and investigations into his activities are ongoing.
