NEW LENOX, IL — New Lenox police have arrested a second suspect in connection with an attempted armed robbery at an AT&T store earlier this month.
On September 1 at around 5:30 p.m., two masked men dressed in construction clothing and gloves forced an employee into a back room at the AT&T store located at 701 E. Lincoln Highway. The suspects struck the employee over the head with a handgun and demanded access to the store’s safe.
However, multiple security measures prevented the safe from being opened. Frustrated, the suspects fled without stealing anything. The employee declined medical treatment for minor injuries sustained during the incident.
Authorities identified the suspects using video footage from the crime scene and a local dollar store, where the suspects were seen purchasing white latex gloves used in the robbery attempt.
On September 4, New Lenox police arrested 27-year-old Virgil Holland of Chicago on multiple felony charges including attempted armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated unlawful restraint, and aggravated battery.
Detectives continued their investigation and obtained additional evidence linking 31-year-old Matthew D. Moore to the crime. Moore was taken into custody on September 25 and charged with attempted armed robbery and aggravated unlawful restraint. He is currently held at the Will County Jail awaiting a pre-trial detention hearing.
New Lenox police expressed gratitude to the Tinley Park Police Department, Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Chicago Police Department, and the FBI for their assistance in apprehending the suspects.
