Nearly three months after the daylight murder of Nestlé factory union president Umarsir Singh in Bhinder Kalan village, Moga police on Thursday announced the arrest of five suspects from Goa.
The accused—Pargat Singh, Gurmeet Kaur, Jugraj Singh, Jaspreet Singh, and Gurneel Kaur—were brought back on transit remand and placed in police custody for two days. With these arrests, a total of eight individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the case so far.
The murder occurred on January 3, 2026, when Umarsir Singh, a resident of Bhinder Kalan and the union president at the Nestlé factory in Moga, was targeted while leaving for work. According to his brother, Gurwinder Singh, another vehicle deliberately rammed into Umarsir’s car. Armed men then exited the second vehicle and opened fire while he was still inside, fatally shooting him on the spot.
Following the incident, police teams used technical surveillance and intelligence to identify the suspects, leading to phased arrests. Balkar Singh was first arrested on January 4, followed by Karamjit Singh (alias Karan) on January 6 and Onkar Singh on January 11. The five latest arrests were made in Goa.
Authorities continue to search for nine additional suspects named in the investigation.
