The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested five suspected drug traffickers and seized 461 grams of heroin during separate operations on two trains in Assam.
According to GRP Officer-in-Charge Abhishek Bodo, a routine check conducted around 6:10 am on Tuesday at Guwahati Railway Station on the Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express bound for Delhi led to the arrest of three individuals.
The arrested accused were identified as Neha Devi (23), Jiya Singh Lucy (28), and Santosh Kumar (32), all residents of Bihar. Authorities recovered 10 packets of suspected heroin weighing 118 grams from their possession.
In another operation on Monday, a GRP team at Jagiroad intercepted two female passengers travelling on the Sairang–Guwahati Express. The women, reportedly from Manipur’s Churachandpur district, were found carrying 30 packets of suspected heroin weighing approximately 343 grams. Both were taken into custody.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine the source and intended destination of the seized contraband, as well as possible links to larger trafficking networks.
