In a major action against property fraud, Dehradun police arrested three individuals, including a married couple, under the Gangster Act for their alleged involvement in multiple land fraud cases.
The arrested are Neeraj Sharma, his wife Ashu Sharma, and Jyoti Panwar, all residents of Raipur, Dehradun. The police stated that the trio was traced and arrested on Monday after receiving a tip-off about their location. Another accused, Anjali Sharma, remains absconding.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajai Singh said Neeraj Sharma is named in seven land scam cases, Ashu in five, and Jyoti in three. The three were presented in court and have been sent to jail. Singh added that efforts are ongoing to arrest Anjali Sharma, also booked under the Gangster Act.
In a related incident, a 33-year-old man, Ravindra Rana, a property dealer, was arrested for stealing a land records register from the district revenue office on the night of May 6–7. He allegedly intended to alter ownership records to enable a fraudulent land deal in Rajpur.
“Rana confessed to hiding the register in the Asharodi forest after the theft. It has been recovered,” said SSP Singh.
These incidents highlight the growing concerns over property-related fraud in the region, prompting increased vigilance and stricter legal action by the authorities.
