The stepbrother of two young boys in Udalguri district, Assam, has been charged with their brutal murders. Neeraj Sharma, a resident of Tongla, was arrested after the bodies of his stepbrothers, Gaurav and Kaushik, were found with their throats slit in Santopara, Tangla, on December 21.
The boys had gone missing on the afternoon of December 20 after leaving for school. Their bodies were discovered the following morning by a local resident who alerted the police. Following an investigation, authorities quickly identified Neeraj Sharma as the prime suspect in the double murder.
Bodoland Territorial Region IGP Vivek Raj Singh confirmed that Neeraj was taken into custody and that a motorbike and the weapon used in the crime were recovered from the scene. Singh revealed that the murders took place in a remote area while Neeraj was allegedly riding his motorbike with the boys, en route to school.
The police collected evidence from the crime scene and questioned various suspects, eventually leading to Neeraj’s arrest. Singh stated that there was no indication of any other individuals being involved in the crime.
When asked about the motive, Singh explained that Neeraj had reportedly been feeling neglected by his father, which led to emotional distress. While depression seemed to be a factor, Singh also clarified that there was no evidence linking Neeraj to drug abuse or addiction.
