The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two suspected drug kingpins in Lagos and confiscated large consignments of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine destined for export to Europe.
According to a statement by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi on Sunday, the suspects were apprehended after weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance by the agency’s Special Operations Unit.
The 64-year-old Nwosa, who posed as a successful textile merchant, and 49-year-old Obiegbu, a businessman in wine distribution, were both revealed to be leading separate drug syndicates operating covertly beneath their legitimate businesses.
Babafemi also detailed additional seizures across the country:
In Borno, 26-year-old Baba Kaka Ibrahim was arrested on September 27 with 39,380 tramadol and exol-5 pills hidden in the engine compartment of a Mercedes-Benz GLK.
On the same day in Yobe, officers seized 1.4 kilograms of Colorado from Halima Adamu on the Damaturu–Maiduguri road, leading to another arrest in Maiduguri.
In Kano, two men were arrested with 30,030 tramadol pills.
In Bayelsa, three suspects were caught at Swali jetty with 12 kilograms of cannabis and 50 cartridges.
In Kaduna, Lagos, and Abuja, Adedamola Olayeni, 56, was arrested on September 22 with 404 blocks of skunk cannabis weighing 262.6 kilograms at the Abuja–Kaduna tollgate. The drugs were found in his Honda Pilot, traveling from Osogbo to Katsina.
The NDLEA continues its crackdown on drug trafficking networks nationwide.
