Kolkata police made a breakthrough in the Entally robbery case with the recovery of an additional Rs32.5 lakh on Tuesday. This brings the total amount recovered to Rs1.5 crore out of the Rs2.7 crore stolen on May 5.
The latest stash was discovered in the Mandirbazar area of South 24 Parganas, hidden at the residence of a relative of Nazrul Hossain, also known as Laltu, the key suspect in the case. During interrogation, Hossain disclosed the location of the hidden cash.
“The investigation is progressing steadily, and we expect to recover the remaining amount soon,” said Joint CP (Crime & Traffic) Rupesh Kumar.
So far, ten individuals have been arrested, including Mintu Sarkar, a constable with the Kolkata Police Special Task Force. His involvement has sent shockwaves through the force, prompting senior officers to advise unit heads to closely monitor internal conduct.
The robbery occurred at Phillips More in the Entally area, where two people transporting Rs2.7 crore from a foreign exchange company on SN Banerjee Road were intercepted while en route to deposit the money in a bank.
“We have all 10 suspects in custody and are interrogating them collectively to identify all links in the operation,” said a police officer. Authorities are continuing their efforts to recover the remaining Rs1.2 crore.
