Nearly a week after a road rage incident in Navi Mumbai escalated into the brutal murder of Shivkumar Sharma, a 45-year-old man, the Navi Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch have made a significant breakthrough. One of the two accused, Rehan Shaikh, has been arrested, while the main perpetrator remains at large.
The arrested suspect, Rehan Shaikh, 20, a resident of Nagpada, Mumbai, was tracked using CCTV footage that led to his arrest in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) area. Police revealed that Rehan was riding pillion on the scooter with the main accused, who struck Shivkumar Sharma repeatedly with a helmet. Despite efforts, the main accused is still on the run, though his identity has been confirmed.
The tragic incident occurred when Shivkumar Sharma tried to overtake the scooter of the accused near Belpada and Utsav Chowk, resulting in a verbal argument. In retaliation, the main accused struck Sharma’s head with a helmet seven to eight times. After the assault, Sharma managed to reach the Kharghar Police Station, but was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead shortly after treatment.
After the murder was reported, the Crime Branch began investigating the case and scanned over 70,000 CCTV cameras. While the faces of both suspects were captured, the vehicle’s registration number remained unclear due to poor camera quality. Rehan was apprehended, and he stated that he was unaware of the severity of the attack. He claimed that he did not know the victim had died.
The search for the main accused continues, with authorities stating that they are aware of his whereabouts and expect to make an arrest soon.
