A 36-year-old man named Naushad, a native of Bihar, was arrested in Shahdara, Delhi, for sexually assaulting a stray dog, police said on Saturday.
The disturbing case came to light after a video of the incident began circulating on social media, sparking outrage. A member of People for Animals (PFA) lodged a police complaint on April 10, prompting immediate action.
Naushad was arrested the same day, and during interrogation, he allegedly confessed to committing the act on April 7 while under the influence of alcohol.
A case was registered under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (mischief by killing or maiming an animal) and Section 11(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Animal welfare groups have condemned the incident and called for strict legal action. The investigation is ongoing.
