Nathaniel Wayne Thomas Arrested After Armed Robbery in South Congaree

Search continues for second suspect, Antwan Sumter Jr., in robbery case

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Nathaniel Wayne Thomas, 20, is in custody, while authorities continue searching for his accomplice, Antwan Sumter Jr., in connection with an armed robbery at a business in South Congaree, Lexington County.

The incident occurred when the suspects allegedly pointed guns at multiple victims, including a mother and her 2-year-old child, during a robbery at a local business.

With the assistance of the Columbia Police Department and Lexington Medical Center Public Safety, South Congaree Police apprehended Thomas after locating him. He was taken into custody without incident.

Both Thomas and Sumter are charged with several serious offenses, including:

Armed robbery with a deadly weapon

Possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a crime

Criminal conspiracy

Pointing or presenting a firearm at persons

Authorities are still actively searching for Antwan Sumter Jr., who remains at large.

Thomas was released from the Lexington County Detention Center after posting a $23,000 surety bond.
