FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Former Adams County Township Trustee Nathan Mihm has been sentenced following an investigation by the Indiana State Board of Accounts (ISBA) that uncovered charges of perjury, theft, and conflict of interest.
Arrested in August 2024 on seven counts—including perjury, four conflict of interest charges, and two theft charges—Mihm accepted a plea deal last month. He pleaded guilty to four charges: perjury, two counts of conflict of interest, and theft. The agreement capped his sentence at six years, with most of the time suspended, requiring less than two months behind bars.
ISBA’s probe revealed Mihm awarded township maintenance contracts to Kiess Electric, which then subcontracted work to Mihm’s own business. This included upkeep of township properties like three historic cemeteries and the community building.
Additionally, Mihm misused the township’s rainy day fund to pay Kiess Electric, resulting in financial losses.
The ISBA’s final report ordered Mihm to repay $294,959.07 to the state and Union Township. He was also mandated to pay $12,835.83 in restitution to the Adams County clerk by September 23.
