BEXAR COUNTY, TX — A potentially deadly terror plot was thwarted when the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) arrested a San Antonio-area man found with a large cache of weapons and homemade explosives.
On July 12, deputies executed a search warrant that led to the arrest of Nathan James Henderson, 39, after receiving a credible tip regarding threats of mass violence and the possession of bomb-making materials.
Authorities say Henderson had expressed intentions to harm individuals based on race, religion, and government affiliation. During the search of his residence, investigators seized:
Multiple firearms and ammunition
Chemicals and components used to make IEDs
24 grenades in various stages of construction
Notebooks detailing extremist ideology and vague plans targeting public areas
A homemade remote detonator
Nearly 100 metal cylinders believed to be intended for blasting caps
The SAPD Bomb Squad and Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed that several of the seized items were viable explosives or in progress. Henderson was allegedly experimenting with different devices.
He now faces multiple felony charges, including:
Terrorism
Hoax bombs
Possession of components of explosives
Possession of prohibited weapons
BCSO thanked partnering agencies, including the ATF, for their swift action in preventing a potential act of mass violence.
“This arrest likely prevented a major tragedy,” BCSO stated. “We commend the collaborative effort to keep our community safe.”
