Naresh Bhatt, 33, is facing murder charges in connection with the disappearance and presumed death of his wife, 28-year-old Mamta Kafle Bhatt. Mamta, originally from Nepal, was last seen on July 29, 2023. After failing to show up for work, she was reported missing on August 5, prompting a wellness check by authorities.
Following an investigation, disturbing evidence has emerged, including troubling online searches and suspicious purchases made by Bhatt in the days after Mamta vanished. Court records indicate that Bhatt was seen buying knives and cleaning supplies, and investigators uncovered blood evidence in their home, suggesting foul play.
Bhatt has been indicted on charges of murder and defiling a body in the Prince William County Circuit Court. Despite Mamta’s body still being missing, DNA evidence confirmed her blood was found in their residence. Bhatt’s legal team maintains that Mamta may still be alive, but surveillance footage showing him disposing of bags further strengthens the prosecution’s case.
Prosecutors noted that Bhatt had researched topics like “How long can you remarry after a spouse’s death” and “What happens to debt after a spouse dies,” raising suspicions about his potential motives. The case continues to unfold, with Bhatt currently held without bail. His next court appearance is pending.
