Badagada police in Bhubaneswar arrested 55-year-old Naresh Barik, alias Butu, for allegedly defrauding a man of Rs 18 lakh by promising a job for his son at NALCO using forged documents.

Barik convinced the victim, Sarbeswar Samal, that he was an Assistant General Manager (AGM) at NALCO and could secure a job for his son. Trusting Barik, Samal paid Rs 18 lakh through multiple digital and cash transactions.

Barik provided fake appointment letters, ID cards, gate passes, and medical certificates resembling official NALCO documents. The scam was uncovered when Samal’s son visited NALCO and was told the documents were fake.

Police seized forged papers, cheques, transaction records, and e-wallet statements during their investigation. Barik was arrested and produced before the court, with the probe continuing.
