In a major breakthrough, the KR Puram police arrested five men, including a phenyl vendor, for orchestrating a daring Rs50 lakh robbery at Bhavani Jewellers on Seegehalli Main Road.
The accused — Narayan Lal, Keertharam, Mahendra Gehlot, Pushpendra Singh, and Dilip — were tracked down in Rajasthan following swift police action based on CCTV footage and tip-offs.
The gang looted 478 grams of gold, specifically 41 gold chains, during the heist on May 9, when only two employees were present at the store. Two of the robbers wielded weapons to threaten the staff before fleeing on motorcycles.
Police said the heist was masterminded by Narayan Lal, a phenyl vendor with a criminal background. He had served time in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, where he met the other accused. After planning the robbery, they executed it with military precision, escaping to Rajasthan.
Inspector B Ramamurthy led the investigation team, which tracked suspects Mahendra Gehlot and Dilip to Borunda village in Jodhpur district. Their interrogation led to the arrest of the remaining three.
Dilip, a merchant, is also accused of purchasing the stolen jewellery.
All five men are originally from Rajasthan and had been working odd jobs across Karnataka and Rajasthan.
