A woman from Naples has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for exploiting an elderly person, committing grand theft, and using personal identification fraudulently, after stealing over $50,000 from a 79-year-old woman.
Elizabeth Dean, 57, was arrested in August 2023 following an investigation by Naples police into over $52,000 in fraudulent charges on the elderly victim’s bank account. The victim later told investigators that Dean might have been stealing jewelry for years and confirmed that she knew Dean personally.
Surveillance footage revealed that Dean had withdrawn cash from the victim’s checking account at a local 7-Eleven, with the footage spanning over several dates. Further investigation showed Dean had over 20 pawn transactions involving jewelry from 2019 to 2022, valued at about $79,000.
Among the stolen items was a 14-karat medical alert bracelet that belonged to the victim’s late brother, which contained important medical information about his health condition. In addition to her 10-year prison sentence, Dean is also required to pay $130,896 in restitution to the victim.
