A 34-year-old jobless youth, M. Dinesh Kumar from Namakkal, has been arrested by Sivaganga Cyber Crime Police for his involvement in a Rs15.8 lakh fraud targeting a stock-market investor from Sivaganga. Dinesh Kumar allegedly allowed a stranger to operate his bank account on a ‘rental basis’ to facilitate the scam.
According to the police, the victim, a stock-market investor from Sivaganga, came across an advertisement on social media that promised high returns on stock-market trading. Enticed by the offer, the investor decided to invest and transfer funds as directed by the fraudsters. However, instead of receiving the promised returns, the investor was defrauded of Rs15.8 lakh.
Police investigations revealed that the scam was orchestrated by a stranger who convinced Dinesh Kumar to allow him to operate his bank account for a fee. Kumar, in turn, provided his account details to the fraudster, who then used it to channel the ₹15.8 lakh in investments from the victim.
Once the fraud was detected, the investor filed a complaint with the Sivaganga Cyber Crime Police, leading to an investigation. The police traced the transactions to M. Dinesh Kumar’s bank account, and after questioning, he was arrested on charges of cheating and facilitating the scam.
Kumar has been charged under sections related to cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. Police are continuing their investigation to identify the stranger who operated the fraudulent scheme and are working on recovering the stolen funds.
