The Namakkal district secretary of Hindu Munnani, K Jagadeesan (38), was arrested on Monday for allegedly murdering his 36-year-old wife, Geetha, at their home in Pothanur near Paramathi Velur. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday following a family dispute.
Initially, Jagadeesan told the police that an unknown assailant knocked on their door around 1 AM and stabbed Geetha when she opened it, injuring him while trying to intervene. However, Geetha’s mother, Dhanalakshmi, suspected foul play and lodged a complaint with the Paramathi Velur police.
During interrogation, Jagadeesan admitted to fatally stabbing his wife due to family disagreements. District Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kannan clarified there was no involvement of any outsider.
“Jagadeesan’s claim of an unidentified attacker is false. The victim had only one stab wound on her neck, with no other injuries,” said Rajesh Kannan.
Jagadeesan is set to be remanded in Salem Central Prison under judicial custody.
