Nairobi Woman Arrested Over Son’s Death After Soiling Incident

Melvin Owuor, linked to son's death, in custody after investigation

by Amelia Crawford

A woman from Nairobi is under arrest in connection with the death of her four-year-old son, following an unsettling incident where the child allegedly soiled himself. The case came to light when Melvin Owuor, along with an unidentified companion, transported the child’s body to the Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary on December 9, 2024. Initially, Ms. Owuor claimed her son passed away peacefully in his sleep.

However, after the morgue staff directed them to report the incident to the police, the mother and her friend abruptly cut off communication and turned off their phones. This raised suspicion, prompting the mortician to alert Mowlem police. Upon investigation, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that the child had died from injuries inflicted by his mother, allegedly after an incident where the boy had soiled himself while using the bathroom.

As the investigation continues, both Ms. Owuor and her companion remain in custody, and the DCI is working to uncover further details surrounding this tragic case.
