Mykiel Sanchez Holmes Arrested for Opelika Gas Station Shooting

Victim in stable but critical condition after July 20 incident

OPELIKA, Ala. — A 28-year-old man, Mykiel Sanchez Holmes, has been arrested following a shooting at a gas station in Opelika that left a 31-year-old man hospitalized.

The Opelika Police Department (OPD) responded to the Grub Mart on Columbus Parkway around 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2025. Officers found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds and transported him to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Georgia. As of Monday morning, police reported the victim was in stable but critical condition.

Later that day, around 3 p.m., the Lee County SWAT Team executed a search warrant at a residence on Crawford Road. Holmes was located, arrested, and booked into the Lee County Jail on an attempted murder charge.

Police investigations revealed that Holmes and the victim knew each other and had a previous altercation before the shooting.
