Mumbai police have busted a large-scale heroin trafficking racket, arresting nine people and seizing over 8.832 kilograms of heroin valued at more than Rs 36.55 crore.
The operation began on December 16, with surveillance conducted between 2:30 am and 6:30 pm. Two men, Jalaram Natwar Thakkar (37) and Wasim Mazruddin Syed (27), were first arrested with 326.22 grams of heroin worth Rs 1.30 crore. They were booked under Sections 8(a), 21(a), and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
During further investigation, police arrested Rubina Mohammad Sayyed Khan (30), who revealed the heroin belonged to Shabnam Sheikh, who was later apprehended in Ajmer. The inquiry led to Muskan Samrul Sheikh (19), identified as a supplier, and Abdul Qadir Sheikh, caught while delivering a consignment. From Abdul Qadir’s possession, heroin worth Rs 1.38 crore was seized.
A special raid at Anand Nagar led to the arrest of three men—Nawajis Ghalib Khan, Sarik Mohammad Salim Salmani, and Samad Ghalib Khan—packing heroin. Police seized a massive consignment valued at Rs 33.86 crore.
In total, the Mumbai police arrested six men and three women, seizing 8.832 kg heroin, Rs 8.26 lakh in cash, a car worth Rs 10 lakh, and 12 mobile phones. The investigation continues to track the remaining members of the trafficking network.
