The Pydhonie police successfully apprehended an absconding accused, Mastan Ibrahim Shaikh, who had been evading arrest for 21 years in connection with a theft and burglary case. Shaikh had been wanted since 2002, under Sections 380, 457, and 34 of the IPC, after a case was registered at Pydhonie Police Station.
Despite multiple summons from the Sewree Court, Shaikh had failed to appear, and as a result, the court declared him a fugitive and ordered the police to locate him. Using technical skills to track his whereabouts, the police discovered that Shaikh hailed from Chennai and had been changing residences frequently.
On October 23, acting on confidential information, the police set up a trap in the Dharavi area, where Shaikh was expected to arrive at midnight. He was arrested and brought to Pydhonie Police Station, where his formal arrest was made, finally bringing him to justice after two decades.
