ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A high-stakes police pursuit ended on Interstate 40 in Albuquerque after a suspect hijacked a UPS truck with the driver still inside.
According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), the incident began in To’Hajiilee on Monday, Sept. 8, when a suspect approached a UPS driver during package deliveries and ordered him to pull over. The suspect, later identified as Mukhammed-Emin Idrisov, 35, of Brooklyn, New York, allegedly entered the delivery truck while armed with a knife, according to court records.
BCSO deputies pursued the stolen vehicle and ended the chase near Unser Boulevard on I-40. Traffic on the interstate was closed temporarily as law enforcement worked to resolve the situation.
No Injuries Reported
Authorities confirmed that the UPS driver was unharmed, and there is no ongoing threat to the community. Idrisov was arrested at the scene and is now facing charges of:
False Imprisonment
Aggravated Assault
BCSO is continuing to investigate the incident as a potential kidnapping.
