Kanpur: The Bithoor police, along with a surveillance team, have arrested three members of a tech-savvy burglary gang, including the mastermind, following a break-in at a policeman’s house.
The accused—Mukesh Rajput, his brother Aakash Rajput, and their cousin Manoj Kumar alias Suraj alias Dhilla—stole jewellery and cash worth over Rs 15 lakh from the residence of Chandrashekhar Jatav, posted at Fatehgarh’s salary disbursement office, on Nov 3, 2025.
Police said the gang used drones to survey homes before committing crimes. The incident occurred while the Jatav family was at a guest house for Dr Shilpi Jatav’s wedding. The thieves broke the main door lock and stole Rs 7.75 lakh from the safe and Rs 7.5 lakh worth of jewellery belonging to Chandrashekhar’s wife, Kanti Devi.
The accused were arrested near a factory in Pem village, and police investigations revealed they bought an old car for Rs 2 lakh after the theft and committed two more burglaries in Kanpur and Kannauj.
DCP West SM Qasim Abidi said the arrests followed coordinated efforts between the zone’s crime branch and Bithoor police. The gang’s high-tech methods highlight the increasing sophistication of property crimes in the region.
