LAGOS, NIGERIA — Muibi Alade Folawiyo, chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, has been arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged large-scale corruption and financial misconduct.
According to Demola Bakare, spokesperson for the ICPC, Folawiyo is being investigated for misappropriation of public funds, diversion of government resources for personal use, and bypassing official procedures.
“He was arrested at the council secretariat on 42 Broad Street, Lagos, after repeatedly ignoring official invitations which he had acknowledged,” Bakare confirmed to reporters on Wednesday.
ICPC operatives from the agency’s headquarters carried out the arrest and took Folawiyo into custody for questioning. However, he has since been granted administrative bail and is required to report back to the commission as the investigation progresses.
The ICPC emphasized that the probe remains active and that all due legal processes are being followed to ensure transparency and accountability.
The arrest is part of a broader push by the commission to crack down on public sector corruption and abuse of office at the local government level.
